But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was curshed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed. We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to our own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all. — Isaiah 53:5-6

Despite his offer of forgiveness, his message would not be heard. This promised Hero would be betrayed, beaten, and murdered. He would be pierced for our failures, crushed for our mistakes, and punished for our sin. But through his death would com life. We owe and infinite debt to God, a payment for our evil, restitution for the chaos we plunged this world into. This Herow would be the answer to that debt and the hope of this world. Through this Hero God promised forgiveness no matter how messy our lives or how big our sins. He offered it freely. We can wallow in our guilt, run from our past, or hide from our faults; but God offers to wash it all away, if we let him.
